Cherry Hills First Line Swap – John Elway House
The year was 2017 when Elway wrote a $7 million check for this place. The house measures around 12,000 square feet, seven bedrooms, and 12 bathrooms, and yeah, twelve bathrooms in one house is actually interesting to think about.
Inside you’ve got vaulted ceilings and four separate fireplaces, so clearly no one was cutting corners on the design. Outside there’s a jacuzzi pool, plus a big outdoor area built for entertaining, which tracks for someone who’s probably hosted a few parties in his time.
Now Cherry Hills Village is small but it’s seriously exclusive, just 6.5 square miles and around 6,000 residents total. Lots of space between houses, mountain views, and a strong sense of privacy is basically what defines the place. Peyton Manning lives there too, so Elway’s got some pretty solid company in the neighborhood. And even though it feels tucked away from everything, downtown Denver is just 30 minutes out, and the Tech Center is barely five to ten minutes away.
The home runs on a Vantage Lighting System with an InFusion RadioLink setup, controlling 140 different lighting loads, which is a lot for one house.
And then There is Idaho
On top of his Colorado home, Elway also owns a lakefront property on Coeur d’Alene Lake out in Idaho, and this one is actually bigger, sitting at around 15,000 square feet.
What got me was the tech setup. Using something called the Equinox app, he can sit on his couch and adjust the lights, audio, video, window shades, and even the pool and spa, all from his phone without moving an inch. But his favorite thing is apparently the “All Off” button, one press and every light in the entire house shuts off at once. He’s said it saves him close to an hour every single night, and honestly, in a house that size, I believe it.
Summit County Ranch
Before all this, Elway had a much smaller place near Silverthorne, in an area called Ruby Ranch, overlooking Lake Dillon. Just 3,150 square feet, four bedrooms, four bathrooms.
But it had a lot of charm, a river rock fireplace, hardwood floors, a 700-square-foot bunkhouse out back, a hot tub, and a pool table for good measure. And there was a horse barn and paddock too, which tells you Elway has always had a soft spot for wide-open spaces.
Life in Cherry Hills
Shanahan’s Steakhouse is a big deal around here, partly because Mike Shanahan himself co-owns it, and partly because those Lombardi trophies are just sitting there inside for anyone to see. The High Line Canal is another thing people around Cherry Hills use 71 miles of trail running right through the area, good for biking or just a long walk. Golf-wise, Cherry Hills Country Club has been hosting big USGA and PGA events for years, so that crowd fits right in here too.
